If you’re excited about Apple’s iPhone multi-touch display, then you’re sure to be intrigued by Microsoft’s first real innovation since Bill announced he was giving his billions to charity.

Introducing Microsoft Surface (site not for the faint of bandwidth) a table-top computer with a 30 inch touch screen that allows you to interact with data using your finger, your hands, brushes, your gadgets, even your glass of tea.

The idea is fantastic.

We know about Vista’s many editions, but the pricing has been something of a mystery. Over the weekend, Microsoft Canada accidentally leaked details about Vista’s Canadian pricing. Now Amazon has published a list of the US prices for the various Vista editions, along with a release date of January 30, 2007.
Here’s the skinny on the pricing from Amazon. Keep in mind that pricing and release date are subject to change; in fact, a Microsoft spokesperson told Ars that the pricing is not set in stone.

Full versions
Windows Vista Home Basic: $199
Windows Vista Home Premium: $239
Windows Vista Business: $299
Windows Vista Ultimate: $399

Upgrade versions
Windows Vista Home Basic Upgrade: $99.95
Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade: $159
Windows Vista Business Upgrade: $199
Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade: $359

In addition to the full and upgrade versions, Amazon has a number of License Packs—disc-less boxes—available at prices that seem quite a bit high, but are in line with upgrade pricing for Windows XP. (Check out Windows Vista Ultimate Microsoft License Pack Additional License, listed for $359.) As has been the case with other versions of Windows, copies bundled with hardware (aka, OEM versions) will be significantly less expensive.
